Chicoreus cervicornis (Deer antler murex)

The “Deer Antler Murex” is a muricid with very extensively branched spines which ranges from Indonesia to Northern Australia. It is a common predatory gastropod living in shallow to moderate depths around -10~150m. Development of spines rather variable, and highly branched specimens such as the one depicted are sought-after by collectors. Average size about 55mm, although very large specimens may exceed 70mm. – Adapted from Chong Chen’s post
