The large range of this well known species, rich in colour forms extends from Southern India and Sri Lanka towards the entire SOuth and Southeast Asia region and northern Australia and the Fiji Islands. It Is very typical for nearly adult and adult specimens to have axial furrows to the outer lip. Spire is low and the secondary spire callous is highly bulged above the beginning of the filament channel.
