Large distribution from Cape Moreton north to Cape Tribulation. Habitat sand or coraline debris from the intertidal zone down to depths of 130m or more. This species is extremely variable in shape, colour and pattern. The taxon Voluta volva is a known synonym, which is a doubtful name. The holotype is ruined and faded and seems to refer to this species.
