This species is restricted to a single area in Vietnam, where it was recently rediscovered living after a long period without records. It lies within a protected area, but as a large ground-living species is susceptible to a variety of threats, including off-take for the shell trade, as well as threats that are likely to impact the forest, such as disturbance of the understorey underneath the trees or disturbance along paths entering the forests. Hence it is listed as Critically Endangered, based on because of single locality and a restricted area of occupancy (AOO) of 9 km² and the fact that habitat extent and quality continue to decline.
