Guildfordia yoka (Yoka star turban)

This species occurs in the Western Pacific off Japan and the Philippines, found at depths between 200 and 500m. Embryos of Guildfordia yoka develop into free-swimming planktonic larvae with several bands of cilia. Later they develop into juvenile veligers, finally into fully grown adults. Spectacular species!
